Paul César HELLEU inspired his great friend Marcel Proust to create the character of the painter Elstir in In Search of Lost Time. A friend of Claude Monet and Edgar Degas, he mixed with and painted the High Society of his time, but also, as a great lover of the sea and boats, seascapes. The "Helleu style", which characterizes elegance or refinement and feminine grace, achieves immense success in Paris, London and New York.
